Hummie Mann's Blog http://www.hummiemann.com/blog Updates, News and Announcements Tue, 15 Jun 2010 00:44:16 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.6.2 en Master Class in Morocco http://www.hummiemann.com/blog/?p=8 http://www.hummiemann.com/blog/?p=8#comments Tue, 15 Jun 2010 00:41:35 +0000 Hummie Mann http://www.hummiemann.com/blog/?p=8 OK, so I have not been great about updating this - I am sorry.  I will try and do better.  I guess I am motivated to write today because of a cool thing that I just did.  I was invited to teach a master class in film composition to directors and composers from Africa and the Arab world in Morocco.  Firstly it was amazing how I got invited.  A member of the board of the Smithsonian Institute recommended the Pacific NW Film Scoring Program (which I created) to another member of the board - which I think is pretty cool.

Anyway, I spent 9 days in Morocco.  I did 2 days of presentations at a film conference/festival held in Dakhla - a beautiful seaside city in the Western Sahara.  There was a huge amount of interest and the class was covered on many Arab language television and radio stations as well as newspapers.

I got to meet and hang out with amazingly talented directors, cinematographers and actors from that part of the world.  It was truly a fabulous experience.

After the festival, I got a chance to visit Casablanca and Marrakesh - both amazing cities. If you ever get a chance to visit there, do it!  The people are warm and friendly, the locations are beautiful and the food outstanding.

I have already been invited back to Marrakesh and a few other locations. Way cool!!

]]> http://www.hummiemann.com/blog/?feed=rss2&p=8 A new stage musical http://www.hummiemann.com/blog/?p=5 http://www.hummiemann.com/blog/?p=5#comments Wed, 17 Dec 2008 20:32:46 +0000 Hummie Mann http://www.hummiemann.com/blog/?p=5 Hummie has been spending a lot of time working on a new stage musical - a Christmas Black Comedy called “A Slaying Song Tonight”.  Working with playwright John Olive and lyricist/songwriter Sue Ennis, the story takes place in the Minnesota wilderness in the 1940’s and tells the story of a legendary axe murder that happened on Christmas eve.  The show will get it’s first public staged reading in Minneapolis on January 22nd, 2008 at the Plawright’s Center.  More details to come….
